There is no doubt diabetes is becoming a serious health problem in this country and one of the reasons is the growing number of people who are obese.  Obesity and weight problems lead to an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.  One of the things that I think is most important when you think about diabetics and the problems they face is the fact that there needs to be control of blood sugar throughout life.  When blood sugar is not affected or it's improperly because of diet, it can make a big difference and lead to problems.
