Muscle strains are very problematic.  The thing I don't like about muscle strains is the fact that they can take forever to heal, especially as we get older.  In your 20s or 30s, a strain may take a few days.  In your 40s, it could take weeks.  Beyond that, it could be something that bothers you for six months.  The thing about a strain is it can be avoided by stretching and taking that time before you exercise.  You want to make sure that you don't push yourself that much that you find yourself overwhelmed.  I think that's a very key point.
