Histamine is released in an allergic reaction. It is histamine that actually causes you to have a runny nose, itchy eyes, kind of have that sneeze. The release of histamine actually is one of the ways many medications work. They work by blocking that release of histamine. Essentially, you get rid of those histamine-related symptoms by giving, you guessed it, and anti-histamine, a drug that works against histamine. Histamine actually is one of our big friends in the allergic reaction. It just causes annoying symptoms.
