It is called emotional lability. That is, emotions can change. They go up and down, and certainly, adolescents fit that category. Adolescent can actually have peaks and valleys, and when they do, it can be very frustrating and difficult to deal with them. The thing you need to do is you need to hang with them and be supportive. If they’re down, spend time talking to them. If they’re too high, you try to find out what’s going on and prevent them, hopefully, from making an irrational decisions. It is a time of change. Hormones certainly play a role.
